REVIEW: FREE ANGELA AND ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS

After watching Free Angela and All Political Prisoners, I left the theatre feeling empowered, proud, inspired, motivated and encouraged. With all of the advances in society that we have gained as a people, I think a lot of us have forgotten or don’t even know where we came from.

This documentary takes us back to a time where being a black person, a woman and a black woman was very difficult. It follows the story of Angela Davis, a brilliant scholar and activist, after she becomes a target of the government for her revolutionary and political beliefs.

Shola Lynch does a wonderful job of painting a picture of the climate during that time through news footage, interviews, photography as well as past and present interviews from Davis herself.

Unfortunately, this film is only in limited theaters; however, if it’s not in your city you can request it via Tugg (tugg.com) which is a fairly simple process.
