Today, April 4th, was the great Dr. Maya Angelou’s birthday. She would’ve been 89 years old.
Dr. Angelou is primarily known for her poetry and novels. However, she made her feature film directorial debut in 1998 with Down in the Delta. After several wrong turns, Loretta (Alfre Woodard) travels down south from Chicago to heal and rebuild with her two children. Alfre delivers as usual with a familiar story founded on the sturdiness of family and returning to one’s roots to set your path in the right direction.
